Welcome to L.A.V.A. Lounge!

Hey, MMK here! I’m a city girl from NY now living in the suburbs of the gorgeous Hudson Valley, but soon to make the move to the Washington, D.C. metro area (Virginia side)! As an aspiring renaissance woman leaving the corporate world and stepping into the online world, I believe I can make a difference. I hope to inspire you to pay attention to what matters in life and to encourage you to get up and go try something new! I hope you join me in my lifelong journey in the continual search for the positive, and I promise to share useful tips, motivating stories, and real perspectives as a daughter, wife, mommy, and friend. Thank you for reading!

Creative Expression Through Art

Creative Expression Through Art

I have been thinking a lot lately about creative expression. I believe all of us have a desire to express ourselves in ways that set us apart; however, it isn’t always easy to put our passion into action. Martha Graham was a very influential modern dancer and choreographer. It has been said her influence was like that of Picasso for modern visual arts! She once said: “There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.” How inspiring! I encourage you to make today one full of energy and creativity in a way that is unique to you. Tap into that desire to express yourself, whether it be through dance, music, drama, creative writing, visual arts… or even jewelry!... read more

Cool As A Cucumber

Cool As A Cucumber

I treated myself to a spa day last weekend. It was a welcome refreshment after working so hard all week! I spent all afternoon receiving an aromatherapy massage and a revitalizing facial. It was just what I needed! What is your favorite way to pamper... read more

A Fresh Start to the Summer

A Fresh Start to the Summer

I know, I know. Summer isn’t officially here yet, but I started on Summer eating early! There were just too many great fruits and veggies at the Farmers’ Market on Saturday. Salads and smoothies have been on my menu ever since. I can’t wait to go again this weekend! What are your favorite seasonal... read more

A Perfect Shelving Option

A Perfect Shelving Option

I have been loving all of the posts online about the trendy DIY project of turning wooden boxes and crates into shelves. At the risk of failing at the art of craftiness, I want to try my hand at my own version of this idea. I am going to make a jewelry holder out of crates! I want to hang them on the wall in different positions and put hooks inside to hang my necklaces. There may be a few ideas floating around for earrings and bracelets, too. I am excited to have a new way to show off my favorite pieces! The only thing better for me than a cute home decor piece is a home decor piece that I made. How do you showcase your jewelry collection? What is a project that you are proud... read more

A Very Welcome Guest

A Very Welcome Guest

My friends are coming to visit in June and I couldn’t be more excited because… they are bringing their new puppy along! I have been considering adopting a pet for a while but have been hesitant due to not really being around pets that much. This visit brings the perfect opportunity to find out if it is a responsibility that I would like to take. While I know the dangers that a young puppy and his untrained bladder bring, I am accepting that risk and preparing myself for a trial period of sorts. I might enjoy his company so much that I will have to adopt shortly after his return home. How did you know that you were ready to welcome a furry (or not so furry) companion into your... read more

Finally, Warmth & Sunshine!

Finally, Warmth & Sunshine!

Now that Winter has left for a while, moods are shifting with the weather. People are getting out more and staying out longer because of the added daylight. It always seems as though everyone is happier! As green shades sprout everywhere, take advantage of that budding scenery and jog that mile you have been avoiding since the new year rolled in. For the non-joggers of the world, maybe a Yoga class would be better for you? Whatever your reasons (or excuses) are for not doing that one thing, just get out and be active in any way you can!  It doesn’t have to be “exercise.” 🙂 Maybe you aren’t avoiding anything and are excited to have an opportunity after months to breathe in the fresh, warm air as you get your heart rate up. I say go for it and convince a friend to join... read more

Warm Weather Sports

Warm Weather Sports

There is nothing quite like being a part of a crowd at a sport competition. When the excitement is so intense, hardly anyone can resist joining in on the fun. There is such a rush that fills the body up when your team scores. It is a wonderful experience to share that with the people around you, even if they are strangers sometimes! Being a player on a team is just as fulfilling. It is more than just sand in your hair from trying to save the volleyball or muddy stains on your soccer shorts from sliding across the dew-soaked grass field. It is a chance to work toward a goal and hopefully accomplish it. It is having a group of people you can count on, regardless of the outcome of the season. Whether you have a spot in the bleachers or on the field this Spring and Summer, enjoying yourself is pretty much a guarantee! What is your favorite warm weather... read more

Travel Tip: Pack a Map!

Travel Tip: Pack a Map!

Planning a road trip or a vacation to an unfamiliar city? BRING A MAP! Yes, your phone does have Google Maps on it. Yes, you will probably be just fine without a paper map. But… what if you are not? There have been a couple instances when the map app delayed telling me about that exit just long enough for me to be really off course. I found myself parked on the side of the road with no signal and a dead battery. Even if you are really good at staying on course, things like stolen, broken, or water-logged phones happen to many. Besides, a paper map takes up a small enough space that you could fit it in your purse! You are probably a world-class traveler; but, maybe take my advice anyway.... read more
